Phillip Kretzer is Director of Embryology for the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division. He received his degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and postgraduate training in Medical Genetics. He is certified and licensed by the American Board of Bioanalysts and is a member of the College of Reproductive Biology.

He began his career in the field of reproductive medicine in 1984 as a member of the team that pioneered and established the states first In Vitro Fertilization program and subsequent techniques used to produce UAB’s first IVF, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), cryopreserved and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) pregnancies.

His experience includes both reproductive research and clinical application of IVF and is author or co-author of numerous papers and abstracts on topics in reproductive medicine. He serves as a consultant with UAB’s department of Urology. He is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the College of Reproductive Biologists, American Board of Bioanalysis and the International Embryo Transfer Society.
