Robert W. Rebar, M.D., is Executive Director of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama and Volunteer Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Rebar is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
Dr. Rebar received his M.D. from the University of Michigan in 1972 and from 1972 to 1974 was a resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was a Clinical Associate at the Reproduction Research Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (1974-1976) before completing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center (1976-1978). After his residency, Dr. Rebar continued on at the University of California, San Diego for 6 years (1978-1984), serving as Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology for 2 of those years. He was Professor and Head of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Northwestern University School of Medicine (1984-1988). Before assuming his current duties, Dr. Rebar was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine from 1988 through 1999 and served as Associate Executive Director of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine from 2000 through 2002.
Dr. Rebar is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Fellow), the Endocrine Society and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation. Dr. Rebar serves on the review boards for several journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fertility and Sterility, Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is currently a member of the editorial board for the journals of Contraception, Journal of Reproductive Medicine and Journal Watch. Dr. Rebar has contributed to many books, as well as authored well over 150 articles on menopause, fertility, and reproductive endocrinology and has been the Principal or a Co-Investigator on several NIH grants.
